Hey CB! Loners rocks and I hope it gets a monthly. What's your next project and who do you think you'll tap for art chores, man? (hint hint) LOL

I'm sorry to say that Loners is a complete disappointment. Too many plots left dandling, too little said and done at the end, incoherent behaviors of the characters ...

It may have been an honest first story-arc for an ongoing, but as a mini-series, it's, in my humble opinion, a failure.

It would have made a good first arc for an ongoing, C.B., which proves all the more that you should be on an ongoing, but it really sucked as a conclusion to a mini, I'm sorry. Your character moments seemed more shallow than usual in this issue, as well.

I just don't understand how a good writer like you couldn't have seen the problem with bringing in all these new plotlines and then resolving very little of anything in the conclusion. I realize part of that is to set it up for more stories, but any good mini (I would think) brings a conclusion to the smaller plotlines (such as Mattie's investigation, Hollow's story, and more Namie development) while leaving the larger ones (such as Fuyumi Fujikawa as an ongoing villainess and the MGH drug ring) open for new stories.

That's, of course, keeping in mind you really wanted to go down the Phil Madness route and not leave that for your next mini/ongoing. I really feel the mini would have been stronger if you'd left Phil's descent into madness as mere hints of villainy to come and kept Fuyumi Fujikawa and the MGH drug ring as the antagonists in this mini. After all, they have clear ties to the two characters you wanted to introduce in this arc (Hollow and Namie).

If you read this and want to respond to it, I was wondering if you could at least tell me if you meant for Hollow to be flying or super-leaping away with Phil. She obviously knew what she was doing, because she picked him up in a previous panel in preparation of flight, so it's definitely something she can now do.

Still, having seen no indication of flight beforehand, and no resolution on the Hollow plotline at all, it's difficult to tell whether you meant for her to be able to fly now or not.

I would suggest you read Loners #1 through #5 in the form that any regular consumer did and then read Loners #6 and see where you may have come up lacking, when it comes to resolving things in a satisfying manner. I know that's a harsh assessment, but I really wish one of the many editors on this issue had said to you, "how about you try resolving more of the subplots you introduced in the mini?"

Hollow/Penance can not fly. I'm sorry if it came off that way. She was leaping away with Phil.

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question! :) That was bugging me so much like you can't even believe, lol. I know you can't make any promises, but I hope you explain more about Hollow in the future (we never even learned how she got to L.A., after all!). Thanks. :)

Why wasn't Loners a complete story? I felt the ending was just loose thread left hanging around and brought the whole mini series down. Is it true Loners was gonna be an ongoing and then it was hit by the Omega Flight syndrome? I would have hoped the ending would have been fixed if that was a case. In my opinion this ending rivals that of Amazon Attacks and I will not bother buying another Loners mini in the future.

eric, your response is the exact reaseon why I felt a better--that is to say, more complete--ending would have served The Loners' cause than to rewrite the end of The Loners such that there were MORE dangling plotlines.

It's not my place to say for sure what C.B. had in mind, but I'm under the impression that his original outline for The Loners included the resolution of more plotlines than the ending that actually made it to the page.

The Loners mini, as far as I know, was never intended to be an ongoing from the get-go, but fans started asking for one rather quickly. Odd to say, but could it have been all that positive buzz that caused C.B. to write a more open-ended ending to The Loners, resolving fewer plotlines than originally intended?

Again, it's not my place to say anything for sure, but that's the way it seems to me. Take the original Q&A from Newsarama, for instance. See the types of things C.B. planned to reveal soon, but for whatever reason (and I'm not judging, C.B.), he didn't.
